Quezon City, Philippines — Filipino artist Sheila Osmeña-Go presents A Symphony of Corals, her debut solo exhibition at the Opus Atrium, featuring a collection of works inspired by the beauty and structure of coral ecosystems. Through layered forms, intricate linework, and warm, luminous palettes, the exhibition explores themes of harmony, resilience, and interconnected life.

Artist, Mother and an Environment advocate

A lifelong artist, Osmeña-Go’s passion for creativity was sparked early, from designing prom dresses in high school to drawing her favorite action figures. She formally began experimenting with painting in 2015, working across watercolor, oil, and acrylic. A graduate of AB Psychology from Cebu Doctors University, her artistic promise was recognized early when she won first prize in a college-wide poster-making competition, earning an offer to pursue Fine Arts at UP Cebu.

For Osmeña-Go, art is closely tied to home life. She is a mother to two children, Ethan and Cadence, and the wife of Howard Go, President and CEO of Summit Media. Creating within a home where family, learning, and creativity coexist, she brings this balance into her work. She is also the great-granddaughter of former Philippine president Sergio Osmeña Sr.

Her choice of corals as a central subject is both aesthetic and purposeful. Beyond their vibrant colors, coral reefs play a crucial role in marine ecosystems. It provides shelter and food for marine life, filtering water, and protecting coastlines by absorbing wave energy during storms. Fascinated by the sea through her love of snorkeling, Osmeña-Go also references the full moon in several works, inspired by the rare moments when coral spawning occurs. It is an event triggered by precise timing, ocean conditions, and lunar cycles.

Coral Symphony

“I chose corals not just for their beauty, but for their purpose,” says Osmeña-Go. “They sustain ecosystems, protect our shores, and remind us how interconnected life really is. I hope this body of work also helps build awareness around the importance of preserving our reefs because when they disappear, entire ecosystems and livelihoods are affected.”

Throughout her journey, Osmeña-Go has used her art in service of others, auctioning works to support children with cancer, raising funds for essential supplies in Cebu during the COVID-19 pandemic, and participating in Rotary Club group exhibitions benefiting SPED programs at Gen. Pio del Pilar National High School and the Philippine Institute for the Deaf.

A Symphony of Corals marks an important milestone in Osmeña-Go’s artistic journey and offers audiences a focused introduction to her evolving artistic voice through her first solo presentation. A Symphony of Corals is on view at the Opus Atrium beginning January 16 to 23 and is presented in collaboration with Galerie Joaquin.
